A.I. to Automate Inefficient Workflows in Finance

Ryan Terpstra is the Founder & CEO of Selerity, an AI powered contextual search and automation company. Ryan Terpstra also serves on the Board of Directors. Before Selerity, Terpstra was the Director of Quantitative News at Thomson Reuters, where he led the design, build, and launch of Thomson Quantitative News (TQN), a machine-readable news offering for investment managers. Prior to TQN, he worked as Senior Strategist in the Corporate Strategy group developing growth strategies for Thomson Financial across quantitative trading, data analytics and financial news. Terpstra also worked for the World Economic Forum in the Center for Global Industries, working on projects for the Forum’s financial services and alternative investment members. He was responsible for the design and presentation of the Forum’s “M&A Heat Map” session at their Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland. Terpstra was a New York Power 30 Under 30 and holds a B.A. in Finance, graduating with honors from Miami University (Ohio).

Florian started his career in the life sciences, applying AI to the domains of structural biology, oncology, and neuroscience. In that role, he developed advanced NLP, machine learning, and data mining techniques at Novartis and several European research centers and has published as first author in Nature Biotechnology. Florian directed an international research collaboration on distributed text mining (BCMS), worked for an IT startup, and founded a data operations consultancy. He joined Selerity in 2015 as a Senior Data Scientist to apply these same techniques to unstructured data in finance. Florian holds a PhD in Bioinformatics from the Autonomous University of Madrid.

Brendan Gilmartin has held numerous senior level positions at Selerity since the company’s founding including sales, partnerships, product & business development, and management of several teams. Prior to Selerity, Brendan was the Senior Equity Market Analyst for Thomson Reuters, and held various positions in financial technology startups early in his career. Brendan holds a B.A. in English and Minor in Business Studies from Providence College in Rhode Island. He lives with his wife and four children in Shrewsbury, New Jersey where he volunteers his time coaching youth sports after recently serving as Chairman of the Shrewsbury Recreation Committee and a founding board member of the Two River Little League.

Calvin Kim has over 10 years of product management and software engineering experience. Prior to Selerity, he held various senior product management positions at RealNetworks, one of the first internet media streaming and messaging companies. Before RealNetworks, Calvin was a lead software engineer at MobileSpring (acquired by Ztango), where he was responsible for enabling one of the first inter-carrier mobile messaging services in North America. Calvin holds a B.S. in Math and Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University.

Kristy Loeffler is a seasoned financial professional with over 10 years experience working with high-growth information companies. Prior to joining Selerity, Kristy was the North American Finance Director for Ebiquity plc, a London-based, publicly listed company. As a member of the senior leadership team, she led a multi-regional team that focused on cash flow administration, P&L management, operational finance, and strategic M&A. Prior to Ebiquity, Kristy worked in various finance roles with Fifth Third Bank.

Yuliya Falkovich is a seasoned professional with over 20 years of software engineering and development team management experience. She has held numerous senior level positions over her 6 years on the Selerity team, most currently serving as the Director of Application Development. Yuliya’s extensive professional experience spans the financial, media, and technology industries. Prior to Selerity, she held various senior engineering and management roles in Morgan Stanley’s fixed income technology department, Thomson Reuters’ media department, as well as in various startups. Yuliya is bilingual in English/Russian and currently holds a dual Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from New York University.
